Counselling & Psychotherapy
Click on the titles below to find out more about some of the issues I work with:
Counselling for Anxiety
It’s common to feel anxious from time to time. When anxiety takes control it can severely impact your quality of life.
There are many types of anxiety such as panic attacks, post-traumatic stress, social anxiety, and generalised anxiety disorder.
Severe anxiety occurs when feelings such as uneasiness, worry and fear, spiral out of control interfering with work, social interaction, sleeping patterns, eating routines, and family life.
CBT, EMDR, and talking therapy can help combat anxiety by finding the root cause of the issue, using tools and more healthy strategies that work, to overcome anxious thinking.
Counselling for Depression
Everyone experiences periods in life where they feel down, fed up, sad, or low. It’s normal to react to events or situations with these kinds of feelings when something hasn’t worked out as you hoped it would. Suffering from depression is different and can affect everyday life.
Society is becoming more understanding about mental health issues, but suffering from depression can still feel stigmatising at times.
Talking therapy, CBT, and EMDR can help manage the causes and symptoms of depression. Counselling can help you find your way through. To find hope where it seems hopeless, to build resilience, and break unhelpful thinking patterns that are keeping you stuck.
Anger Management
Anger can be positive and negative. When it's used positively it can bring about action when you need energy to tackle unfair, threatening, or disturbing issues. When it is used negatively it can be destructive, self-limiting, and cause problems in relationships, social settings, and work environments.
In counselling we can work on recognising triggers and physical reactions. Managing intensity and identifying harmful side effects.
Our work may include working through unresolved anger and developing strategies for when in challenging situations with more positive outcomes.
Loss & Bereavement
Whether you've lost a someone you love, a pet, a job, a relationship, or the future you were hoping for, counselling can help you cope with the bereavement process.
Grieving can be painful, sad, and complicated. Talking through your loss in counselling can help with any unanswered questions you may be struggling with.
Counselling can also support you with the impact of the loss, any feelings of powerlessness, to deal with shock if the loss was sudden, or with overwhelming guilt that some people experience.
Therapy can assist if you are struggling to cope.
Counselling for Autistic Burnout
In a neurodiverse-affirming space counselling can help identify triggers which may lead to burnout and help you learn how to establish sustainable boundaries.
Working together, we can find recovery strategies that prioritise rest, self-compassion, authentic self-expression, free from guilt.
Counselling can also help identify masking behaviours, to understand the energy costs of suppressing autistic traits, and develop healthier strategies for better energy management.
Overwhelm, Sensory Stress & Recovery
In therapy I can help you recognise early warning signs for overwhelm and burnout, such as irritability, social withdrawal, and brain fog.
We'll explore where the edges of your window of tolerance are, find appropriate strategies to calm your nervous system more easily, and discover coping techniques to manage or reduce any stressors before sensory overload, emotional overwhelm, or body shutdown takes hold.
There are many tools I can share, such as mindfulness and DBT-informed skills including sensory self-soothing.
I aim to create a safe space where your experience is validated, especially when exhaustion, overwhelm, shame, guilt, or feeling misunderstood adds to what you are carrying contributes to any distress.
Whether you are looking for support with anxiety, depression, anger, bereavement, autistic burnout, or overwhelm, therapy offers a space to slow things down, to understand what's happening, and find steadiness.
My approach is thoughtful, compassionate, and tailored to your needs. Together we can explore the difficulties and put support in place in a way that's most helpful for you.
