Counselling FAQ – What to Expect from Therapy
How long are Counselling sessions?
Sessions are up to 55 minutes (EMDR sessions can be up to 90 minutes) for both online and in person appointments,
What does a consultation involve?
It is a 20-minute free phone call, or online chat to talk about what it is you need, to identify what changes you would like to make, and a chance for you to ask any questions to find out if I will be a suitable Counsellor for you.
It's important to find a therapist you feel comfortable with.
How does Online Therapy work?
A link will be sent to you to join the online session. It's vital you are in a place where you can speak privately with no risk of being disturbed.
I recommend having 15 minutes space or personal time before sesssions, and 30 minutes afterwards to give yourself enough time to reflect and breathe.
It's recommended you wear headphones during the sessions but this is optional.
How many sessions will I need?
This is a very difficult question to answer. It really depends on what you need. Some people have 6 to 10 sessions, others look for more long term therapy to deal with complex issues they are facing.
Clients also come back after a period of time to work on other issues they are then ready to deal with.
Can I stop if I don’t want to continue before I have achieved my goals?
Of course. But I strongly recommend talking about why you feel that way.
It could be an issue can be resolved and sessions continue. It could be I can adjust what I am doing to make you feel more comfortable.
Therapy is about dealing with unresolved issues and will likely be difficult. However, this is part of the process. It may feel challenging, but you will learn valuable tools and healthier strategies, where recovering and healing will follow.
Do you work with Children?
No, I work with adults only, 18 and above.
How much are the Counselling sessions?
55-minute session is £60
90-minute session is £90 (EMDR sessions will be longer at 90 minutes in the desensitisation phase)
